Trent Rockets win 4th game in 5 courtesy Rehan Ahmed’s heroics with both the bat as well as the ball against Originals.
Rehan Ahmed spearheads Trent Rockets fourth win out of five.
With an outstanding performance led by David Willey and Rehan Ahmed, the Trent Rockets easily defeated the Manchester Originals and moved level on points with the Oval Invincibles at the top of the table.
As the visitors made just 98 for 8 from their 100 balls, Willey, the captain of the Rockets, was in outstanding form at Trent Bridge. He bowled 20 of the first 30 deliveries in the Originals’ innings and returned figures of 3 for 11, his best in the Hundred.
Before dangerman Jos Buttler and Rachin Ravindra sneaked behind to consecutive deliveries from the left-armer as the Originals fell to 26 for 3, Willey’s first victim, Ben McKinney, was caught lbw for a duck.
The Rockets were down 22 for 2 after Sonny Baker, who was called up to the England white-ball teams on Friday, had Root caught behind and Ravindra trapped Tom Banton leg before wicket on the reverse-sweep. However, Rehan displayed his smooth strokeplay by scoring an undefeated 45 from 35.
Rehan and Tom Moores (22 not out) secured a comprehensive victory, with the hosts achieving their mark with 26 balls remaining to record their fourth win in five games and falling behind the Invincibles on net run-rate after Max Holden was caught by Salt’s one-handed grab. On Thursday night, those two teams square off at The Oval.
“We talked about intent a lot at the start of the competition and Rehan epitomises that,” Willey said. “He’s a tricky one to bowl at. You’re not quite sure what he’s going to do. When it comes off like it did tonight he can take the game away from the opposition.”
