Tuchel downplays the prospect of playing Kane, Foden and Bellingham in the starting 11 together as system doesn’t allow it.
Foden, Bellingham and Kane cannot all start in England’s system, insists Tuchel.
Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, and Harry Kane cannot start together unless England modifies their system, according to Thomas Tuchel, who has cautioned that he is unlikely to bring five No. 10s to the World Cup.
The head coach is cautious about packing too many attackers into his team and is searching for the ideal tactical balance. His remarks increase the likelihood that at least one well-known player will miss the competition.
With one No. 10 behind Kane and quick wingers to support the captain, Tuchel has implemented a structured 4-3-3 lineup and has been explicit about the team’s roles. Foden is not considered a wide player by the German, whose team has qualified for the World Cup with two games remaining.
Rather, the Manchester City attacker is vying for a key position with Bellingham and others. Given that the England captain is a striker who enjoys dropping back and creating, Tuchel has no wish to restrict Kane’s style.
“At the moment, if we keep the structure, they cannot play,” Tuchel told TalkSport. “They can but not in the structure, not for the balance that we developed and not for structure that comes also with wingers who are specialists in their positions. We play at the moment with a 6, 8, a 10 and a 9.”
In addition to Cole Palmer and Morgan Gibbs-White, Bellingham and Foden have returned to compete alongside Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze in the qualifiers on Thursday at home against Serbia and Sunday in Albania. Gibbs-White has not been chosen, and Palmer is out due to a groin issue.
“There’s a lot of players and there’s the chance that we will not take everyone,” Tuchel said. “Not because we don’t like it, not because they don’t individually deserve it, but we will always do what’s best for the team, we will always do what’s best for winning.
“We will always do what’s best for balance and we will try to keep the clarity, even if it means that we have to take tough decisions. We take tough decisions in any camp, and this will not change when we go to a tournament.”
