UAE give Matiullah, Simranjeet recalls in Asia Cup squad as Muhammad Waseem will lead UAE at the tournament.
Muhammad Waseem will lead the United Arab Emirates at the 2025 Asia Cup, and they have selected a squad of 17 players for the tournament. The UAE’s team has added two players from the current T20I tri-series against Pakistan and Afghanistan: left-arm spinner Simranjeet Singh and right-arm quick Matiullah Khan. The remainder of the team is staying in their current positions.
The 32-year-old Matiullah has only participated in one ODI and five T20Is thus far. The Pearl of Africa Series in July included the final of those Twenty20 Internationals against Nigeria. Simranjeet, 35, has played in 11 Twenty20 Internationals and five One-Day Internationals. Last December, he played for the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf T20I Championship.
UAE are part of Group A in this year’s Asia Cup, which starts on September 9, and will be held in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The other three teams in their group are India, Pakistan and Oman. UAE start their campaign on September 10, when they face India in Dubai. While they are yet to beat India or Pakistan in any format, they have beaten Oman in five T20Is.
The top two teams from the group will progress to the Super Fours stage.
