[Saba Sports News] Uganda achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, defeating Rwanda by nine wickets on November 30 in the final round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup African Regional Qualifier in Windhoek, Namibia.
This victory followed their crucial win against Zimbabwe, marking a significant step in their qualification journey.
The team, led by Brian Masaba, finished second in the seven-team table, securing their place alongside Namibia, who topped the table with wins in all their matches. This marks Uganda’s first participation in a senior international men’s ICC tournament.
Masaba played a key role, taking two important wickets, contributing to Rwanda’s total of 65 all out in 18.5 overs. Teammates Alpesh Ramjani, Dinesh Nakrani, and Henry Ssenyondo also took two wickets each. Uganda reached the target in just 8.1 overs, with notable performances from Simon Ssesazi, Ronak Patel, and Roger Mukasa.
With Uganda’s win, all 20 teams for the T20 World Cup 2024 are now confirmed. Direct qualifiers include the West Indies and the USA as hosts, along with the top eight teams from the 2022 edition and the next-best ranked Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The remaining spots were filled through regional qualifiers, with Ireland, Scotland, Namibia, Nepal, Oman, PNG, and Canada also qualifying.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will start on June 3, featuring 20 teams divided into five groups. The top two from each group will move to the Super 8 stage, further divided into two groups. The top two from these groups will advance to the semi-finals, leading to the final showdown.
