
Cricket fever is running high in Kanpur, often called the ‘Manchester of the East,’ as India takes on Bangladesh in the second and final Test at Green Park Stadium, starting Friday, September 27.
To address a recurring problem, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) came up with a creative solution to prevent monkeys from stealing food at the stadium, which has been a common issue during international matches.
The UPCA hired langurs and their handlers to keep the monkeys at bay, especially near the broadcast crew, who are often targeted.
Sanjay Kapoor, Director of Green Park, explained, “To avoid the terror of monkeys, we have langurs to take care of them.”
Additionally, black cloth was used to cover broadcast equipment areas to prevent monkeys from accessing snacks.This isn’t the first time langurs have been used to manage the monkey menace at Green Park, a well-known hotspot for the animals.
Ahead of the match, the Public Works Department (PWD) inspected the stadium and found some parts of Balcony ‘C’ unsafe for spectators, resulting in certain sections being closed for repairs. However, about 1,750 seats in the upper block remained available for fans to watch the
