Vijay Shankar set to make his move to Tripura as he confirms obtaining NOC from TNCA subject to approval from Tripura.
Vijay Shankar might be the next person to move to the Northeast after Hanuma Vihari. Like Vihari, the Tamil Nadu and India World Cup all-rounder is poised to change sides and play for Tripura in the forthcoming domestic season. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has already granted him a NOC.
“I have obtained the NOC from TNCA but am yet to receive confirmation from the Tripura Cricket Association. I will be able to officially announce my switch once I get the formal approval letter from Tripura,” said Shankar.
Late Tuesday night, this publication was informed by a TCA official that Shankar will be joining Vihari as a professional for the forthcoming season. As previously announced, Tripura will participate in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the Elite division. In the upcoming campaign, Vihari is anticipated to be the North-East team’s captain.
Beginning in 2012, Shankar played in 58 Ranji Trophy matches for his home state of Tamil Nadu. During that time, he amassed 3,142 runs at an average of 44.25, including 11 hundreds and 16 half-centuries.
He played in 62 List A cricket matches and amassed 1,702 runs at an average of little over 34, including two hundreds and nine fifties. He participated in 47 T20 matches and scored 1,004 runs.
Last year, he had a really good first-class season, scoring two hundreds and a half and 476 runs at an average of 52.88 in six Ranji matches. He played five games in List A cricket, scoring 188 runs at an average of 37.6. He only scored 83 runs from four appearances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
