Watkins misses England’s game against Latvia to an injury meaning he has left the England camp from Riga.
Watkins out of England squad to face Latvia.
Due to an injury, England attacker Ollie Watkins will not play in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying match in Latvia.
During the Three Lions’ 3-0 victory over Wales on Thursday, the 29-year-old was substituted at halftime.
Watkins missed an opportunity late in the first half and then clashed with the post to score his team’s second goal at Wembley.
The Aston Villa forward was “OK,” according to England manager Thomas Tuchel, but he has already returned to Villa and will not be travelling to Riga.
By defeating Latvia, the Three Lions would advance to the World Cup the following summer with two games remaining.
Tuchel stated prior to the game that he was “convinced” the Bayern Munich striker would be ready in Riga, despite the fact that captain Harry Kane was absent from the Wales match.
On Monday, the 32-year-old worked out at Tottenham’s training facility with his England teammates.
Anthony Gordon, a winger for Newcastle, took Watkins’ place at Wembley in the second half and may do the same in Riga.
Marcus Rashford is an additional choice. Although he has frequently played from a central position throughout his career, the Manchester United forward, who is currently on loan at Barcelona, loves to play from the left.
After Kane, he leads the current England team with 18 goals.
Since making his England debut in 2021, Watkins has made 20 appearances and scored six goals.
With only one goal in ten appearances this season, the forward has struggled at the club level.
On Saturday, October 19, Villa’s first game following the international break is a trip to Tottenham.
