Webster signs for Warwickshire to play upcoming County season while also serving as warm-up ahead of the WTC Final.
Webster signs for Warwickshire in a 3-month deal. The Australian all-rounder, who made his debut in Sydney will play from May to July. This will also serve as an extended practice for him ahead of the World Test Championship finals.
In his Test debut this month, Webster scored 96 runs, including a half-century in the first innings, to help Australia defeat India 3-1 in the series and secure a place in the June final at Lord’s against South Africa. Since then, he has been selected for their next tour to Sri Lanka, where he will compete for a spot in their final squad.
As anticipated, he will probably miss a few Blast games if he is selected in Australia’s squad for the WTC final, which is set for June 11–15. After that, in late June, Australia embarks on a three-Test tour of the West Indies.
Cameron Green will probably be Webster’s opponent for a berth in Australia’s final XI. Webster’s selection may be contingent on Green’s recuperation from a serious back ailment that has kept him out since September.
In the lead-up to the WTC final, other Test players from Australia who are not playing in the IPL or PSL might follow Webster’s example and look for county contracts. Deals have already been signed by two South African regulars, Kyle Verreynne (Nottinghamshire) and David Bedingham (Durham).
After recent stints with Gloucestershire (in 2024) and Essex (in 2023). Webster will be playing for his third county in as many years. In that time, his reputation has grown considerably. He signed a contract with Essex while playing club cricket in the UK. He later spent the majority of Gloucestershire’s victorious T20 Blast campaign with them last summer.
“I’m really pleased to sign for the Bears for part of the 2025 season,” Webster said. “Having played Birmingham League cricket [for Knowle and Dorridge] in the past. I have great memories of the people and the area. I played some Championship cricket last summer with Gloucestershire and loved the challenge of the competition.”
Mark Robinson, Warwickshire’s head coach, said: “We’re delighted Beau has chosen to become a Bear. Since we first approached him he has made his international debut which shows how highly regarded he is thought of by Australia’s selectors. As an allrounder he will give us great balance in both the Championship and Blast.”
