West Brom relieve Ryan Mason of head coach duties with the Baggies suffering their 10th straight loss away from home.
West Brom sack Ryan Mason as head coach after 10th straight away defeat.
Following a stoppage-time loss to Leicester on Monday that dropped the team to 18th place in the Championship, West Brom fired Ryan Mason as head coach. The 34-year-old’s stint ended after seven months, and it was the team’s tenth consecutive away loss.
Mason held a number of positions at Tottenham, including assistant to Ange Postecoglou and temporary manager, before being hired on a three-year contract. Nigel Gibbs and Sam Pooley, two employees of Mason, had also departed, according to West Brom.
“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Ryan, Nigel and Sam for their efforts and wishes all three the very best for the future,” West Brom said. “First-team coach James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis until a new staff is appointed.”
Mason started his league career with three victories and a tie from his first four games. However, he only won six of his next twenty-two games, and he lost four of his final five. The team is 10 points outside of the playoffs and seven points above the relegation zone when he leaves.
On Sunday, West Brom will play Swansea in the FA Cup third round. The following Friday, they will play second-place Middlesbrough at home to continue their Championship campaign. After Tony Mowbray was fired in April 2025, the club appointed Mason as his permanent replacement.
Only Carlos Corberán, one of West Brom’s nine managers, has managed more than 100 games since Tony Pulis departed the team in 2017.
