[Saba Sports News] The league stage of the ODI World Cup 2023 ended with an India win as the Men in Blue thrashed the Netherlands by 160 runs.
Centuries from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer took India to a total of 410 runs in 50 overs. Barring these two batters, everyone bowled in the second innings with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma too chipping in with a wicket each to bowl out the Netherlands at a score of 250.
This victory pushed India’s winning streak to nine and they would go into the knockouts undefeated.
However, this is not the longest a team has gone undefeated in the ODI World Cup history. Australia, in their glory days, enjoyed a 34-match undefeated run from 1999 to 2011 in the ODI World Cups.
India too were undefeated for 11 games across the 2011 and 2015 World Cups. West Indies had won the 1975 and 1979 editions of the World Cup and maintained a 10-game undefeated streak during that period.
India’s ongoing run of winning nine ODI World Cup matches on the trot ranks fourth in this list. Rohit and Co. would want to further stretch it as they still have important matches coming up.
