[Saba Sports News] In the latest development surrounding the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), it has been reported that Rahul Dravid may step into the role of mentor for the franchise. This comes in the wake of Gautam Gambhir’s departure from the position as he took on the same role with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
According to Dainik Jagran, if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) fails to persuade Dravid to continue as the head coach of India as his contract has already expired, he could potentially take on the position of mentor for the KL Rahul-led Super Giants.
Dravid’s coaching tenure with the Indian team concluded recently, having been appointed for a two-year term from November 2021 until the culmination of the ODI World Cup in 2023.
While Dravid has not officially announced the end of his coaching tenure for India, reports indicate that his future plans may involve a shift to a mentoring position with LSG.
The BCCI is expected to engage in discussions with Dravid to ascertain his future intentions, but it appears unlikely that he will continue as the head coach, given his desire to spend more time with his family. Notably, the IPL provides a unique opportunity for individuals to balance family commitments with staying connected to the game during its two-month duration each year.
The report suggests that the LSG has been keen on having Dravid as part of their support staff from the beginning, with the coaching role for the Indian side being the primary obstacle to fulfilling this aspiration.
Notably, Dravid has served as the mentor of Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils, now known as Delhi Capitals.
