[Saba Sports News] The Champions Trophy 2025 promises an exciting spectacle as eight formidable teams have clinched their spots, marking a historic occasion as Pakistan play host for the first time ever.
The participating teams earned their spots based on the points tally from the recently-concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 league stage. Teams finishing in the top eight of the points table of the World Cup 2023 secured their seats for the tournament in Pakistan.
India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand showcased exceptional cricket, securing their positions at the top four positions of the table and ensuring their participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Pakistan, Afghanistan, England and Bangladesh also earned their places in the tournament. Afghanistan will make its debut in the eight-team competition.
Notably, Sri Lanka missed the cut for the Champions Trophy 2025, finishing ninth in the World Cup 2023, marking the first time the island nation would not feature in this prestigious tournament. Similarly, the Netherlands, securing the 10th spot, lamentably missed the opportunity to compete among the elite teams in the Champions Trophy.
Reflecting on past glory, South Africa (1998), New Zealand (2000), Australia (2006, 2009), India (2013) and defending champions Pakistan (2017) have all tasted victory in the Champions Trophy. As the cricketing world eagerly anticipates the upcoming event, England, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be fervently vying to clinch their maiden Champions Trophy title in 2025.
