Women Domestic Cricketers in India to get double the match wages as part of BCCI’s ongoing efforts to elevate the domestic game.
Match fees more than doubled for women domestic cricketers in India.
In women’s domestic cricket, the BCCI has increased match fees for players in the first XIs in senior events from INR 20,000 to INR 50,000 each day. The judgement was made on Monday in Mumbai during a meeting of the Apex Council.
Half of that sum (INR 25,000 per day) is due to those in the reserves. A change has also been made at the age-group level, with reserves earning INR 12,500 a day and players in the first XIs earning INR 25,000.
Up till now, if they were in the XI, age-group players would earn INR 10,000 per day, while the reserves would get INR 5,000. The entire cost of this fee structure was slightly over INR 2 lakh every season if they played all league fixtures, including the final. That figure will now be in the region of INR 5 lakh.
In response to calls for a review of match fees within the system following India’s first-ever ODI World Cup victory, the BCCI is making these modifications as part of its continuous efforts to improve the local game.
In order to help broaden an already-existing talent pool that the WPL has assisted in amplifying, a number of elite state coaches and athletes had asked for such a shift internally. With India winning the Under-19 World Cup twice in a row, younger women’s interest in the sport is growing, which is the reason for the junior level salary adjustment.
The BCCI raised the women’s national team’s match fees to INR 15 lakh each Test match in 2022, while the corresponding sums for an ODI and a T20I were INR 6 lakh and INR 3 lakh, respectively.
The central contract data, however, remain unchanged, with the highest grade earning INR 50 lakh, which is less than the lowest pay slab for men.
