Women’s T20 WC winners set for huge prize money increase in this editions’ Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
Women’s T20 World Cup is set to begin on October 3rd, and the winners will will receive USD 2.34 million in prize money. This is a massive increase in the prize, 134% over the USD 1 million given to the 2023 winners.
The aggregate prize fund of USD 7.95 million is also 225% greater than the USD 2.45 million on offer in 2023. The ICC decided in June 2023 to give women the same prize money as men, and this competition will be first.
Earlier this year, India, the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup winners, received USD 2.45 million. The disparity in the number of matches played by teams during the two events—20 for the men’s T20 World Cup and 10 for the women’s—explains the discrepancy between that amount and the USD 2.34 million that the women champions will get.
Compared to the USD 500,000 given to South Africa, the losing finalist last year, the runners-up in the 2024 Women’s World Cup will receive USD 1.17 million. In 2024, the two losing semi-finalists will get USD 675,000, up from USD 210,000 in 2023. And USD 112,500 will be awarded to each of the ten teams that compete in 2024.
On October 5, the ICC announced a modification to the Sharjah game schedule. Previously, Australia and Sri Lanka were to face each other at 1800 local time. Bangladesh and England were to be playing the afternoon match at 1400 local time. The rescheduled schedule now has England playing Bangladesh in the evening and Australia and Sri Lanka playing in the day.
On October 3, the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup gets underway in Sharjah. Bangladesh will play Scotland at 1400, while Pakistan will play Sri Lanka at 1800.
