[Saba Sports News] At Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on November 12, Netherlands cricketer Bas de Leede achieved a historic milestone by breaking his father Tim de Leede’s World Cup wicket record. Bas surpassed Tim’s 14-wicket haul from the 2003 World Cup, becoming the Netherlands’ highest wicket-taker in World Cup history.
This record-breaking moment came when Bas de Leede dismissed Indian captain Rohit Sharma with a well-executed slower ball in the 18th over. Sharma, who had scored 61 runs, was caught at mid-wicket by Wesley Barresi, marking Bas’s 15th wicket of the tournament.
Before the match against India, Bas had already claimed 14 wickets in eight games at an economy rate of 7.11. He added two more wickets in this match, totaling 16 in the World Cup.
Besides his bowling success, Bas also showcased his batting talent, scoring 127 runs in eight games, including a notable half-century.
Bas’s all-round abilities were instrumental in the Netherlands’ World Cup qualification, contributing significantly in the qualifiers with both bat and ball.
In the match against India, after Rohit Sharma opted to bat first, India posted a massive total of 410 runs, thanks to centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. With this victory, India continues its unbeaten run in the 2023 World Cup and looks forward to their next game against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on November 15.
