On December 9, the player auction for the 2024 WPL
season is scheduled to take place in Mumbai. Each of the five clubs will have
access to an extra purse of INR 1.5 crore (about US $180,228) in addition to
the remaining funds from the previous auction and player releases.
At the daylong auction, thirty slots total—nine of
which are accessible overseas—are up for grabs. Out of the 60 players that were
recently retained, 21 were signed by the five teams abroad, while 29 were let
go. The funds from the releases will be added to the new purse of INR 1.5
crore, along with the remaining amount from the previous auction.

The Giants, who placed last in the points standings
the previous season, have cut almost half of their roster. They will have the
largest purse, worth INR 5.95 crore (about $714,904), with ten slots, including
three overseas, up for grabs. Warriorz, who placed in the middle of the table,
have INR 4 crore (about $480,608) to fill five spots, one of which is overseas.
After them comes Royal Challengers, who came in fourth place and used INR 3.35
crore (about US $402,509) to fill seven spots, three of which were overseas.
The Capitals, who finished second in the previous
season, will have INR 2.25 crore (about $270,342) to fill three spots, one of
which will be overseas. Mumbai, out of the five franchises, will get the least
amount of money—INR 2.1 crore, or around US $252,319—to fill five spots,
including one abroad.
