Yoanne Wissa subject to approach from Nottingham Forest but initial offer is below Brentford’s valuation for the player.
Yoanne Wissa is Brentford’s leading scorer in the Premier League with 37 goals
Yoane Wissa, a striker for Brentford, has been approached by Nottingham Forest.
Even though Wissa only has 18 months left on his current deal, the Bees value him significantly more than the £22 million that Forest reportedly proposed, and they will not accept bids in that area.
The size of the proposal for the DR Congo international has not been verified by either club.
BBC Sport can confirm the strategy as Forest looks to continue its unexpected Champions League campaign by pursuing competition for Chris Wood, an in-form striker with 14 goals in the Premier League this season.
Forest defeated Southampton 3-2 on Sunday, moving them up to third place in the Premier League.
With 11 goals in 19 Premier League games this season, Wissa is a highly prized player in west London and has established himself as an excellent Ivan Toney replacement.
The 28-year-old has scored 41 goals in 133 games since moving to Brentford from Lorient in 2021.
