Zampa’s opportunity to boost his red-ball case gets major boost as he is called up by New South Wales.
Zampa has a window in his schedule before the BBL to make a rare Sheffield Shield appearance, but he hasn’t played a first-class match since February 2023. He has previously stated that he still hopes to play Test cricket, with an eye towards the early-2019 Sri Lankan tour. For the match at the SCG, Zampa replaces youthful legspinner Tanveer Sangha.
“Adam is a very experienced cricketer who is a great addition to our group,” Greg Mail, the Cricket NSW chief of cricket performance, said. “To have Zampa, Sean Abbott and Josh Philippe come back into the side after a fantastic win over South Australia in the last round is a bonus.”
Zampa claimed 3 for 41 in his final Shield match against Tasmania at the SCG. He averages 46.98 overall in first-class cricket, but he hasn’t played since 2017.
After suffering a side strain during the UK trip in September, Bartlett made his comeback in the most recent Twenty20 International series against Pakistan, taking five wickets in three games. In addition to the South Australia-Western Australia match, which starts on Saturday, Queensland’s matchup with Victoria will take place during the day and into the night.
After completing his white-ball responsibilities for Australia, Matthew Short was allowed to join Victoria for his first Shield match of the season.
Spencer Johnson’s strong performance against Pakistan earned him a spot in the South Australian squad.
Lance Morris and Jhye Richardson are part of Western Australia’s team, which was announced on Thursday.
